The First Descendant Jayber

Jayber Build Guide

Jayber feels like a "waste" without proper investment - turrets die fast, cooldowns are clunky, and generic Skill Damage mods do not work on him. The fix is Dimension Skill Power reactor + Duration/Cooldown modules for near-100% turret uptime. This guide covers the exact module order and play rotation.

Reactor & Component Priority

Critical: Generic Skill Damage Does Not Work

Community testing confirms that generic Skill Damage mods do NOT apply properly to Jayber's turrets. Dimension Skill Power does. Never slot generic Skill Damage - use Dimension/Non-Attribute Skill Power exclusively for turret damage.

R
Reactor: Non-Attribute + Dimension Skill Power
Farm or buy this - no substitutes

Target a Non-Attribute + Dimension Skill Power reactor. Purple quality is fine early - enhance it as you go. Secondary stat: Skill Duration or Cooldown.

This is your highest priority upgrade before any module investment. Nothing else increases turret damage like this reactor combination.

C
Components: HP + MP Regen first
Survivability before glass cannon

Stack HP + MP Regen (both in-combat and out-of-combat) as primary component stats. DEF as secondary. Avoid pure glass cannon builds - Colossus one-shots you and you stop contributing immediately.

02

Module Priority (Slot in This Order)

Uptime First, Damage Second

Turrets dying or despawning kills your DPS faster than raw damage numbers. Get duration and cooldown right first, then layer damage. Target: Detonation buff duration (~14-15s) exceeds turret empowered duration with ~15s CD for near-permanent uptime.

Priority Module Notes
1st Skill Expansion (one maxed) DO Max one copy. Soft cap is ~100% total range. More is wasted - do not slot multiple copies.
2nd Skill Duration + Cooldown Slot and level until Detonation buff duration exceeds turret empowered duration. Target ~14-15s duration vs ~15s CD for near-permanent uptime loop.
3rd Dimension / Non-Att Skill Power These work on turrets. SKIP generic Skill Damage - confirmed to not work on turrets. Slot negative Skill Damage mods if available (no downside).
4th Multitalented 30% skill damage buff via rotation. Excellent multiplier once uptime is solved. Requires tight rotation discipline.
5th HP/DEF + MP Management Passionate Sponsor (healing synergy), MP Collector or Dangerous Ambush. Swap MP mods based on run type. Fill remaining slots with survivability.

Weapon Setup

W
Enduring Legacy or Thundercage
Main DPS weapon choices

Both are strong farming weapons. Mod for extended magazine + Firing Fiesta on your main gun - these stats carry over to Jayber's pistol skill, giving you 6-7 shots instead of 3. Significant quality of life upgrade and effective DPS increase between turret refreshes.

04

Play Rotation

Jayber Rewards Constant Movement

Turrets snapshot stats on placement. Repositioning refreshes them with current buff states. Static play wastes Jayber's kit entirely - treat every reposition as a buff refresh.

1
Farming loop (dungeons)
Most common use case
  • Place Assault Turret(s) on the pack
  • Use Skill 4 (Detonation/Overhaul) immediately for buff + empowered AoE
  • Move to next pack - turrets stay active
  • Spam Skill 4 on cooldown - with proper duration/CD modules, it is nearly always available
  • Redeploy turrets on repositioning to snapshot latest buff state
2
Colossus fights
Boss-specific rotation

Mobile repositioning to boss weak points. Empowered AoE hits multiple boss parts simultaneously - excellent on Swamp Walker and multi-part bosses.

Swap to dual Medical Turret for heavy mechanics phases - overlapping Medical zones provide strong sustain and let you ignore some damage. Hybrid Assault/Medical is the most flexible choice.

Do not recall turrets early - there is an internal 10s CD on turret recall. Recalling too often punishes your uptime significantly.

05

Key Decision Points

Dual Assault or Hybrid (Assault + Medical)?
Dual Assault + Multitalented gives maximum damage but requires strict rotation discipline. Hybrid Assault/Medical is recommended for most players - the flexibility for Colossus and tough content is worth more than the raw damage difference. Choose dual Assault only if you have the module budget and rotation down perfectly.
When do I invest in damage modules vs uptime modules?
Uptime first, always. A turret that despawns or has low empowered duration is doing zero damage regardless of how many damage modules you have. Get Duration and Cooldown to the uptime target (14-15s buff vs ~15s CD), then add damage mods. Many players invest in damage first and wonder why Jayber feels weak.
Is Jayber viable in endgame content?
Yes - community players with 100+ hours report he becomes "incredibly fun and viable" post-investment. The difficulty is the investment threshold. He requires proper reactor, module budget, and rotation before he shines. He is not a beginner-friendly pick but rewards dedicated mains significantly.

Common Mistakes

!
Using generic Skill Damage mods on turrets
This is confirmed to not apply properly to turrets. Dimension Skill Power is the correct stat. Swapping one generic Skill Damage for a Dimension mod is often an instant damage increase.
!
Overstacking Skill Expansion
One maxed Skill Expansion reaches the soft cap at ~100% total range. Every additional Skill Expansion slot beyond that is a wasted module. Replace the second copy with a damage or survivability module.
!
Recalling turrets too early
There is a 10-second internal cooldown on turret recall. Recalling frequently to "reposition" destroys your uptime. Only recall when you absolutely need to - otherwise let turrets run their duration and redeploy when they expire.
!
Ignoring HP/DEF entirely
Glass cannon Jayber gets one-shot in Colossus fights and stops contributing. Stack HP/MP Regen in components. A Jayber that stays alive contributes more total damage than one who dies in the first mechanic.
!
Playing static behind turrets
Turrets snapshot stats. A repositioning Jayber picks up new buffs on every redeploy. Standing still wastes the snapshotting mechanic and turns Jayber into a worse version of a simpler turret character. Move constantly.
!
Expecting power before modules are invested
Jayber has a hard investment threshold. He feels genuinely weak below it. Do not judge the character on an under-modded setup - invest in the reactor and module priority above first, then evaluate.
