Fortune's Weave: How to Recruit Characters Before the Timer Runs Out
Players keep hitting the same wall: they talk to a unit, still cannot recruit them, then the chapter timer expires. Requirements are per Flame Lord, and Character Info is the only source of truth.
The loop: give one gift (any gift unlocks the Recruit option) → open Character Info for the real requirements → raise Support with Inn meals, not gift spam → raise Renown through side content → recruit the moment both numbers are green. Requirements differ per Flame Lord - the same unit can be free on Dietrich and nearly impossible on Leda.
1The Recruit Loop, In Order
-
1
Give the first gift immediately after meeting them in Dagsion.
One gift is enough to lock their info and meals. Preference matching is a speed bonus - not required for the first gift.
-
2
Check Character Info before spending a week.
Note Support needed (usually 1-3), Renown needed, and any extra line: gold, a specific item, a paralogue, or "Clear ???". If it names a paralogue you do not have yet, park that unit and farm someone else.
-
3
Raise Support with Inn meals, not gift spam.
Three meals per week: your Lord + two guests. Pick the two people you actually want this chapter. Swap a guest if they hate the dish - enjoyment multiplies Support gain. Theater (once unlocked) is a third weekly Support hit on one person.
-
4
Raise Renown by doing side content, not waiting.
Renown comes from main missions, side quests, paralogues, and audiences with the gods. Do the cheap side stuff early so Renown 3-5 units become legal while weeks remain.
-
5
Hit the green checkmark on the main-quest location first every chapter.
Players keep failing chapters by wandering the world map until the timer hits zero. Go to the marked spot, get the check, then do meals/gifts/dungeons. Standing on the spot does not force the mission.
-
6
Recruit as soon as both numbers are green.
Early recruits get Arena, Watching Matches, and dungeon levels. If you only want them for the merged endgame roster, waiting means they join higher-level - but you lose all of Part I combat time.
-
7
Optional: chapter restart to farm Support.
Restarting keeps Support and notable deeds; gold and inventory rewind. Gift + meal, reset, repeat until Support 3. Optional - normal Sunday weeklies are enough if you want a usable squad, not everyone.
2Who to Grab First, Per Flame Lord
| Flame Lord | Easy early targets players name first |
|---|---|
| Cai | Guzran (often near-free), Yang Jie, Noctula |
| Dietrich | Yang Jie, Io, then Kiroc |
| Theodora | Sofia (often free), Noctula, Zarcone |
| Leda | Catania (often free), Guzran, Kiroc |
Mistakes That Leave You Short-Handed
- Waiting to gift until you "have the right present." The first gift is just the key - preference is a speed bonus.
- Farming gifts instead of meals. Meals are the Support engine.
- Letting the world-map week expire without the green check. Always plant the main-quest check first.
- Assuming every unit is available on every Lord. Gaitz is Dietrich-only in Part I; Bonaventure, Tobias, and Fabio are tightly locked.
- Recruiting nobody until Chapter 10. Support 3 + a paralogue + 3000G cannot all happen in one leftover week.
- Trying to recruit everyone on one run. Players cleared Part I with 7 units - completionists spread recruits across four Lords.
