Mortal Shell II Has No Stamina Bar - Resolve Is the Real Limiter
You can swing, dodge, and sprint forever. What actually gates you is Resolve - the gold meter earned by landing melee hits and spent on Shell abilities, weapon specials, and sidearm shots. Here is the loop that wins fights.
Stay in melee, fill Resolve, dump it immediately, refill with lights. That loop is the whole game. Resolve does not refill on its own - if you back off, hoard the bar, or mash without committing, you starve yourself of the tools that actually win fights.
1The Earn-Spend Loop, Step by Step
-
1
Stop treating dodge like a stamina cost.
Panic rolls are cheap now. The mistake is rolling away - enemies track backward rolls. Roll into the attack so you end up behind them and keep hitting. That is how you refill Resolve instead of resetting the fight.
-
2
Commit to a 3-4 hit melee string first.
Attacks cannot be cancelled mid-animation. Learn your weapon's combo length and finish it - those hits are what fill Resolve. Leaping attacks are the re-entry closer.
-
3
Spend Resolve the moment it fills. Do not save it.
Hoarding "for later" is the trap players keep warning about. Use the Shell ability, weapon special, or sidearm as an opener - many of those moves have i-frames. Two or three lights after the spend refill the bar.
-
4
Pick a Seal that lets you stay aggressive.
The default block Seal does not cancel attacks, so you play scared. Vatra's Seal lets you hold Harden mid-swing, eat a hit, then finish the animation (not on red/unparryable attacks). The Parry Seal cancels an attack into a parry for the old high-risk window. Swap off the starter block as soon as you can.
-
5
Farm Break while you farm Resolve.
Melee does HP and Break damage. When the stagger bar pops, riposte - post-patch riposte damage scales with enemy HP and i-frames last through the animation.
-
6
Treat the sidearm as a Resolve dump, not a primary weapon.
Every shot costs Resolve. Weak crossbows feel empty if you spam them. Fire after melee has filled the meter, or lean on a cheap upgraded Shell skill instead.
-
7
If Resolve is still dry, use stones and the world.
Hit living enemies, not corpses. Devout Stone refunds Resolve on sidearm kills. Zealot's Stone pays extra on light combo finishers. Duality Stone makes fast-weapon lights hit twice (post-nerf it is weaker - ignore pre-nerf clips). Resolve tendrils in the world also refill you.
2Pick the Loop That Fits Your Fight
| Situation | What works |
|---|---|
| New / dying to animation lock | Vatra's Seal + roll into attacks + short committed light strings |
| Want burst / glass cannon | Tiel + Axe & Dagger + Trebuchaxe: Shadow Dash → Shadow Strike (Poison/Fragile) → lights to refill → charged sidearm crit. One mistake deletes you. |
| Stay in the enemy's face | Proxima + Axatana: double-hit lights refill fast; spam Biosampler / Seizure; tank with Grafted Armor. Upgrade Biosampler damage and the mitigation node. |
| Sidearm-heavy playstyle | Devout Stone so kills pay the meter back. Do not main a weak crossbow or you will always be empty. |
| Pack of enemies | Spend Resolve immediately on a CC / i-frame ability, refill on whoever is left standing. |
Mistakes That Keep Showing Up
- Playing the first game's loop: two hits, back off, wait. There is nothing to wait for - enemies do not give you that space.
- Mashing. Animations lock you in. A committed 3-hit string beats random taps.
- Saving a full Resolve bar "for the boss." You walk into the room with no tools. Spend it, refill it, spend it again.
- Rolling backward. Enemies track it. Roll through the attack and keep hitting.
- Keeping the block Seal. It cannot cancel attacks - that is why you feel like you can only swing twice.
- Dumping all Resolve into a low-damage sidearm instead of an upgraded Shell skill.
- Building Duality / multi-hit setups off old clips. Duality's damage and Resolve generation were nerfed - check the current numbers.
