Progression Path

How to Progress Efficiently

  1. 1
Create and level a character. Start with a leveling build for your chosen class. Use campaign skip or efficient leveling path. Alt-leveling strategies help for multiple characters.
  2. 2
Follow an exact build guide. Import the planner link from Maxroll, Icy-Veins, or Wowhead. Level skills and prioritize Paragon boards exactly as shown. Do not freestyle early on.
  3. 3
Gear priority: Early to Endgame. Farm World Tiers, Helltides, and Whispers for basics. Target key Uniques, Aspects, and affixes listed in the guide. Tempering and Masterworking at the blacksmith - offense first, then defense.
  4. 4
Complete the season journey. Run Nightmare Dungeons, Infernal Hordes, and Kurast Undercity for glyphs and items. Push Pit/Tower as gear allows for leaderboards and better rewards.
  5. 5
Optimize and scale. Temper correctly, socket gems per guide, use Talismans, Charms, and Horadric Cube effectively. Adjust for your playstyle once comfortable.
Decision Points

How to Choose Your Build

Pushing high Pit/Tower (leaderboards): Prioritize raw power builds like top Sorcerer or specific Necro variants. Check dedicated push tier lists on Maxroll.
Speed farming / general play: Whirlwind Barb, Blood Wave Necro, or Evade Spiritborn for ease and clear speed.
New player / casual: Minion builds (Barb/Necro) or Sorcerer for lower gearing pressure and straightforward gameplay.
Gear investment concern: S-tier builds often need specific Uniques. If unlucky, pivot to an easier A-tier build rather than being stuck.
Meta changes: Check patch notes and hotfixes after each update. If a build drops in ranking, switch early using planner imports.
What to Avoid

Common Mistakes

  • xIgnoring guide skill/paragon order - broken synergies lead to weak performance even with good gear.
  • xOver-farming random content instead of targeted activities like specific boss loot tables.
  • xBad tempering/masterworking priorities - wastes materials and sets you back significantly.
  • xSticking to an underperforming build too long in high Torment when progression stalls.
  • xNot using community planners or importing builds directly - manual setup leads to synergy errors.
  • xNeglecting defenses while chasing damage - survivability matters at Torment 4+.
