Pick the left hole. At the three-hole mechanism, choose the dialogue option "Left one it is..." Coen puts his hand in, the gate opens, and you keep moving. Middle and right poison you and reset the gate.

Read the note on the crate at the locked gate.
The verse describes all three holes. It is the only clue you get.

Coen will put his hand into whichever hole you pick.

The gate opens immediately. No poison, no reset. Keep moving through the maze.

Backup path: refuse the puzzle entirely.
If you pick "Better leave it," talk to Farkas, who appears behind the gate on the left. That route also gets you through without touching the holes.
3Decisions That Matter Around the Maze

Do not use vampiric abilities in the maze.
No Shadowstep, no claws, no obvious vampire powers. Bakir is watching the tournament - reveal yourself and you lose the clean 1v1 and end up fighting his men first, usually with worse gear.

Loot as you go.
You enter under-equipped. Bodies and chests in the maze are how you get usable weapons, bracers, and healing before the Bakir fight.

Porcupine is optional.
If you spoke to him before the event, you can pass without a fight. If you fight, he asks for mercy before the end - sparing him does not block the riddle.

Keep the mask on at the feast.
Play along until Bakir takes you into the treasury alone - that is the clean fight players want. Lines that work: "I'm sorry, but I'm not taking the mask off," then stay agreeable ("With pleasure," "Cheers!") until you are alone. When you are ready in the treasury, pick the hostile sword option.
Mistakes That Cost You the Run
- Choosing middle or right because they "sound safer." Both poison you. That is the trick.
- Testing all three holes. You do not need to - left is enough, and every wrong pick is poison.
- Using vampire abilities to cheese maze fights. It blows the disguise and turns the Bakir encounter into a brawl with his cohort.
- Skipping maze loot. You will walk into later fights with starter gear.
- Starting the Bakir fight in the courtyard. Provoking him early or removing the mask means fighting Bakir plus guards instead of isolating him in the treasury.
